Criminal Justice Careers - Job Description of Detectives

In short a Police Detective Investigates crimes after they’ve happened in hopes of preventing future crimes and bringing those that committed a crime to justice. Modern day detectives use a series of high tech tools in order to resolve crimes. Included in the Detective’s arsenal is the computer and all of the resources it brings along with it. Most Detectives dress in plain clothes to visit the scene of crimes in order to establish a list of possible suspects . Once the Detective has established a list of subjects the Detective then starts investigating each of the suspects to determine if they should be listed on a short list of subjects. From there the Detective further conducts his or her investigation and will often interview the suspects themselves to see what information they can provide as well as if they can provide an albeit. Many Police Officers retire after twenty years and then join Private Investigative Services or start their own Detective Agencies.
