The Family Dentist from Encino

The family dentist can be one of the most important people that you and your family will ever see throughout your lifetime. Choosing a family dentist that meets your family’s dental needs will make going to the dentist a better experience for everyone and will help alleviate normal anxiety felt when attending visits.

Your family dentist should posses all of the normal requirements for becoming a dentist, such as the appropriate education and experience. Your family dentist will have one or more of two advanced dental degrees beyond undergraduate school. These degrees comprise of either (or both) a D.D.S, doctoral of dental surgery or a D.M.D, doctoral of dental medicine. Becoming a family dentist also require two years of predental education as well.

The family dentist should be someone who takes a personal interest in you and your needs. You should feel comfortable discussing you personal health related issues with them as well as asking the family dentist any questions that you may have in regards to your dental visits. You children should feel like they like your family dentist as well and should ideally not feel too anxious about visiting with them.

Seeing the family dentist regularly can be the best step in taking preventative measures with oral health. The family dentist will take x-rays and do periodontal probing to check the status of your teeth and gums. The family dentist will also perform teeth cleanings and high intensity fluoride treatment to prevent tooth decay.

Making sure your family dentist takes their time when doing their work can be an indication of the quality of work you can expect to get from them. Often times people think that the price of work says the most about the quality of work but this is not always true. Also, your family dentist should give you different options when you are considering different types of treatment. For example if you or a family member is getting a filling your family dentist may give you the choice of silver fillings or porcelain fillings.

Your should probably avoid any family dentist who engages in unscientific practices such as selling vitamins, practices holistic dentistry or diagnoses other disease not associated with the mouth.

A popular way to find a great family dentist is to talk to friends that have had positive experiences with their family dentist. Getting a positive referral about a family dentist can be the most important step to finding someone that will work for you.

14 Relationship Principles to Live A Successful Relationship

Each relationship combines two individual stories to coauthor a new relationship story. The implicit contracts authored by each party in a relationship become unspoken assumptions that can facilitate or derail the relationship.

A crucial part of communication in a relationship is to make explicit the hidden assumptions and implicit expectations. To see the point of view of the other and to communicate that understanding, each must respect the other’s point of view. Understanding and respect are not synonymous with agreement.

The ultimate freedom is not to rely on someone else’s response to determine how you feel about yourself.

Ineffectiveness of communication, simply feeling that what you said was not heard or registered by the other, may result in irritation or anger. So often the content of the discussion is focused on with greater intensity, rather than the process initiating the derailment of feeling ineffective in not being heard.

14 Relationship Principles

1. Each person has a point of view. Communication is the establishment of a common ground to understand different points of view to create a mutual, collaborative agreement or plan.

2. Developing empathy with another is predicated on doing it with yourself first. Empathy is a way of listening to yourself as well as to another person with resonance of an entire experience of feeling, thinking, perceiving, and behaving.

3. Rapport is from the French word rapporter which means to be in touch or contact with a person, including yourself.

4. With emotionally charged subjects, reflect back to someone what you hear them saying before saying what you will say. This reflection assures the other’s sense of effectiveness in knowing that you register what was said, and better positions him or her to hear your point of view.

5. What someone believes is more important than what they know.

6. Requiring that others respond to you in a particular way renders inauthentic the person and their response.

7. We are always communicating; there are many languages, and some even use words. “Do not the most moving movements of our lives find us all without words?” (Marcel Marceau)

8. What you don’t do is as important as what you do.

9. Strike while the iron is cold. Known when to be reflective and invoke principles. When a child is drowning is no time to teach rules of swimming.

10. There are few true emergencies in life. “I’d like to think about that and get back to you” is a response.

11. Everyone fails empathically with another at times. Most important in a relationship is how the empathic ruptures are learned from to then come together with greater understanding. At times the most important thing may not be what you have done, but what you do after what you have done.

12. To forgive someone is to free yourself.

13. You cannot change yourself by first trying to change someone else. To have someone live an unexpressed part of yourself can be both unsatisfying and addictive.

14. The only person you can change is you. Attempting to change someone else’s mode of processing or personality style won’t work, and will create derailments. Quicken software will not change to WordPerfect.

Relationship Principles Applied to Marriage

1. Marriage is the most difficult and complex contract someone can enter into that they will ever know. Communication is vital as an ongoing effort. Remember to reflect back what you hear the other saying first, in order to maintain effectiveness in communication.

2. Discuss how to facilitate meeting needs, as well as needs of love and connection in the relationship.

3. Be present to yourself and to your partner.

4. Limit spending the currencies of worry, regret, remorse and suffering.

5. Distinguish self issues from relationship issues and commit to work on both.

6. Collaborate on how to maintain romance, sensual pleasure and the “in love” feeling; when these experiences evolve over time, it does not have to mean a diminution of love, romance or excitement.

7. Recognize gender-specific and unique individual characteristics. For example, creating pleasure for a woman may include the romantic experience of candles, music, and a special dinner. The same pleasure for a man may include a certain dress, lingerie, and a graphic sexual encounter.

RELATIONSHIP EXERCISE

These reflections are designed to clarify and facilitate the developing a more satisfying relationship.

1. How did we do in our last conversation? How do I feel about that?

2. What patterns in our relationship and conversations do I want to expand? To change? To not create?
3. How do I feel around him/her?

4. Am I being all of myself in the relationship?

5. What judgements do I make of myself around this person? What
judgments do I make of him/her?

6. What judgments or criticism do I assume and expect?

7. What do we each want from the other?

8. What do we each need from the other?

9. Am I relying on this person to provide some need or want that I could provide for myself?

10. How could I better support my partner?

11. What could I communicate to him/her know more about what I want and need?

12. What do we do for fun? How can we expand what we do for fun while taking into account our individual interests and definition of fun?

Proactive Skin Care Approach

It is easy to think “my skin looks fine, I’ll worry about it when I am older”, but that is not a sound way to view the health of your skin. A proactive skin care approach is where you adopt a skin care regime to prevent premature aging of your skin before it starts, rather than having to ‘fix’ problems later.

If you think about it, why should you treat your skin any different from some other valuable asset like your car? Why do you get the car serviced? It is just because you want to spend some money, or is it because you need it and do not want expensive repair bills?

A proactive skin care approach is no different and investing in the health of your skin is the same as investing in health insurance, care maintenance, house insurance, etc. We brush our teeth several time as day, why? - not because they have holes in them, but we want to prevent the holes and avoid expensive trips to the dentist…

We take our skin very much for granted and spend little time thinking about it. Maybe because of the many Skin Cancer Ad Campaigns, we will apply sunscreen lotion when going outside, but beyond that, we don’t seem to spend much time looking after our skin.

Similarly, a proactive skin care approach takes the quality of skin care products into consideration, however to often we buy skin care by smell and how good the packaging looks. Neither of which guarantees a quality product. On the contrary, often the expensive, good looking products contain artificial perfumes, synthetic essential oils, chemical emollients, preservatives, and many other ingredients that have been shown to be toxic if used over a long period of time.

Natural Skin Care Products are the only way to approach your skin care regime. Natural products, not just natural ingredients that have been added to an otherwise non-natural base, are a great way to take a proactive step towards promoting and maintaining healthy skin.

In addition to taking a proactive skin care approach, you should also consider doing the same with your diet. Foods that can benefit the skin will also benefit other parts of your body and promote healthy body tissues.

Similarly, exercise and other physical activity will promote blood circulation to the outer layers of your skin, providing it with nutrients and oxygen that will help in promoting the health of your skin.

So, a proactive skin care approach while there is nothing wrong with your skin is the best way to prevent problems from occurring later on.

Want to Feel Rich? Shop Til You Drop…

Just about everybody gets them…

I had them just recently…

Yup, I had a serious case of the “poor me’s”, those down-in-the-dumps, pitiful, worthless feelings of failure and scarcity. I mean, I threw a full-blown pity party.

My web host went down, so no one could see my web pages. I couldn’t get my email. I couldn’t even get into the control panel to make sure I had a current list of subscribers for this newsletter…

Then, just to make sure I was good and miserable, I threw in a few “what-ifs”.

What if the database is gone forever?

What if I never build it back?

What if my business fails and I have to go looking for a J.O.B.?

What if I can’t find one?

What if we lose the house…?

By the time those poor-me’s and what-if’s got going, in my mind we were living in a cardboard box and it was all my fault…

Oh, how a good night’s sleep can change things. I got up the next morning, and started on my normal routine. Part of that routine is spending at least 30 minutes reading something good. Something that will contribute to, and serve, my vision and my dreams.

In this particular instance, the book was “Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting” by Lynn Grabhorn. The book talks about the Law of Attraction, that we get what we think and feel. And the Universe provided just the right cure.

Grabhorn outlined an exercise designed to make you feel good about money, and having it. If you can get the feeling of having plenty of money, you open yourself to attracting that money, and the money flows in. I’m going to give you the original exercise, and a variation I discovered.

Here’s the original…

Take a $100 bill (or the biggest bill you can afford– don’t skimp) and put it in your wallet.

Now go shopping. If you can handle a full day, do it. Even a lunch hour at the mall will work. Just go someplace with lots of different stores.

Now wander from store to store, picking out things you’d like to buy with your $100. Don’t start making a list and figuring what you can get, just pick up individual items and tell yourself that you’d like that item and since you have the money in your pocket, you could buy it. Feel what it’s like to see something you like and know that you can have it.

If you’re diligent, by the end of the day you may have picked up at least 1,000 things. In your mind, you could have spent around $100,000, and it feels good. You have to be pretty prosperous to spend that much on shopping and feel good about it, right?

Hang on to the feeling, nurture it and bring it out as often as you can. What you are doing is sending these feel-good money vibrations into the Universe and opening yourself up to receiving money.

Here’s my variation…

If you don’t have $100, or getting the bill is inconvenient, write yourself a $100 check and put it in your wallet. Then go shopping.

And if actually getting out to the stores is inconvenient, pick up a stack of catalogs or log onto the internet. I use catalogs because I still remember wearing out the “Wish Books” from Sears and Montgomery Wards at Christmas when I was a kid.

I page through the catalogs slowly, looking at the items and mentally “buy” anything that strikes my fancy that I could order with my hundred bucks.

I know this vibration stuff might sound kind of “airy-fairy”, and I’m not an airy-fairy kind of guy. I’m an engineer by education and training. One thing you learn as an engineer is that you do what it takes to get the job done, and this gets the job done.

Want an example? OK…

This summer I wanted to take a long road trip, and cash is pretty tight. We’re making some improvements on the house and paying cash for them. So where was the money going to come from?

I didn’t worry about that, just started planning the trip. What route would I take? How long would it take me? Where would I stop, and who would I see? How would it feel to do things exactly as I wanted to do them on the trip?

Well, a couple of weeks into that routine, and the money fell out of the sky. I mean it came down in chunks…

Earlier this spring, we attended to some family business out of town and didn’t have room to haul everything back with us. So we stored the extra stuff with relatives and went back a month or so later to get it.

While there, we got caught in a hail storm. Chunks of ice the size of golf balls were bouncing off our car. After the storm, we were left with a cracked windshield and several dings in the sheet metal.

Long story short, the insurance company totalled out the car. We decided to keep it and take the settlement, which is paying for my road trip. A side benefit is that, because the car is totalled on the insurance company’s books, we no longer pay for collision insurance, so our car insurance bill will go down for as long as we keep the car…

So just remember–

When the going gets tough, tough…

Go shopping!

CEREC Provides Porcelain Restorations to You in Just One Visit

In the past, having a restorative or cosmetic dentistry procedure involving porcelain crowns, veneers, or fillings required a minimum of two visits to the dentist office and waiting for weeks to have your custom-made dental restorations created and returned to the office.

Now, some cosmetic dentists like Dr. Kodish in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, are using CEREC technology to provide you with porcelain dental restorations in just one office visit. You can now benefit from having custom-made porcelain veneers, fillings, or crowns in just one visit.

CEREC technology creates your porcelain restorations through the use of an optical impression and computer aided design.

In order for the cosmetic dentist to make an optical impression, they must paint your tooth with a non-toxic titanium dioxide powder. This powder allows the infrared waves sent at your tooth to be interpreted more precisely. The result is a high-resolution optical impression of you tooth. This optical impression can be viewed on a monitor next to the chair.

Once the optical impression has been taken, the cosmetic dentist can begin making adjustments and designing your restoration. All of this is performed chair side, allowing you to watch the dentist design your custom porcelain restoration.

Once the cosmetic dentist has finished designing your porcelain restoration, the computer aided design machine will mill the restoration out of a block of porcelain. A mill that uses high-speed diamond burs manufactures the restoration. Your custom-made porcelain restoration is created while you wait and takes just 10 minutes.

When the restoration is finished, the cosmetic dentist will permanently bond it to your tooth. The porcelain restoration you receive will last as long as any other porcelain restoration, and will work exactly the same; the only difference is that it takes a fraction of the time to receive it.

Eat Your Way to Beautiful Skin

Expensive creams, steam bath, careful removal of makeup and a good foundation is well and good. However, this is only partly the way to the flawless skin Hollywood-stars and models display. Beauty and perfect skin come from within, and especially has a lot to do with what you eat. This article tells you how to obtain clear, shining and beautiful skin

Drop white food

Yes, French fries will cause acne, but not because of the large amounts of fat. It is the potatoes that provoke the pimples, a new study reveals. Scientists examined the food habits of 1 200 Paraguayan hunter-gatherers free of acne, and concluded that they eat completely different compared to most people in the Western world. Their diet consisted of protein, fruit and vegetables and was stripped of simple carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and similar products - important aspects in our daily fare. The researchers concluded that our propensity for carbohydrates makes the insulin level increase dramatically, which in the last instance causes pimples.

If you want beautiful face skin free of acne, replace all carbohydrates with whole meal bread, -pasta and brown rice - they are decomposed at a slower rate and will not provoke acne inducing insulin intoxication like white bread, normal pasta and rice.

Eat a lot of fish

Fish is rich in essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6,. These fatty acids counteract the blocking of pores that cause acne, and in the long term, more wrinkles. Salmon, mackerel and tuna are the species richest in the healthy acids, but if you don’t like fish you can also find them in almond, hazelnuts and flaxseed.

Goodbye blush food

A touch of color on the cheeks is nice, but bright red blushing from top to collar bone is not necessarily desirable. If you have a tendency for blushing, be alert that certain food and drinks may be the cause. This especially applies for spice, salted and smoked meat, taste amplifiers (especially sodium glutamate) and alcohol (especially red wine). This kind of food makes the blood vessels expand, and cause red cheeks and blushing neck and breast. However, everybody reacts differently on food be alert on what makes you turn red.

A lot of olive oil

If you avoid fatty substance to keep the waist slim, your face may be paying the price. A lot of young women experience dry skin that peel of because they don’t get enough fatty substance. If your daily intake is less than 20 gram (approx. two tablespoons of oil) the skin is not able to uphold. Not only will the skin look dry and dead, it will also accelerate wrinkles. Without fat the body cannot absorb vitamin A, which the body needs to counter the ageing process. Therefore: Use avocadoes and nuts in the salad and pour some olive oil on top - it doesn’t hurt!

Butt Face

I know many of us women spend tons of money or have loads of products, and have spent countless amounts of money. There are so many products and creams that claim to dramatically diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, blemishes, as well as strengthen and nourish skin.

The original formula was created for a babies diaper rash. Today, there is a steady following which is causing an unembroidered flurry as its steadfast users praise its exciting intrinsic worth by word of mouth it is described as “the miracle cream under $6″.
A month ago I never heard of A&D, but I did know what diaper rash cream was.

I have found it to be the best moisturizing cream you`ll ever apply to your skin; it is specially formulated with two active ingredients, Petrolatum and Lanolin, and forms a protective barrier to help seal out irritating wetness and allows skin to heal naturally.

If you find yourself getting slapped in the face for having a cute bum, I think it’s a sure sign -you apparently look like ass.
What is the point to dash out into those over priced department stores; just to pile on perfume based lotions? Most of them break you out, and will some of these manufactures ever get it?

We (women) hate, we hate lipstick that taste like perfume! Anyway, there are tons of creams for this, creams for that out there, but it seems diaper rash cream is good for your butt (I mean face) and it will not burn a hole in your pocket.

Diaper Rash Cream is slathered on baby bums all over the world and works wonders for those delicate arses, says Jenni Rivard.
Before you know it your face will be smooth and soft like a baby’s butt!

Acne and Skin Problem Myths Debunked

Isn’t skin a wonderful thing to have?

An obvious benefit of skin is that it protects our bodies’ internal organs from harmful elements like dirt, insects, bites, toxic chemicals, nasty weather, and the like, and it certainly is more attractive than what’s underneath.

When skin is healthy it’s nice to look at, but when it’s diseased, it can not only affect you physically, but more painfully can cause stress and social problems.

Like the common cold, acne and similar skin diseases can be treated and covered up, but cannot really be cured. The best treatment is prevention and knowledge about what makes your skin happy, so that you can avoid skin care enemies and breakout triggers.

The real cause of acne can vary from individual to individual, but some factors can be stated with relative certainty:

1. Acne occurs when pores or hair follicles become blocked or clogged.

2. There are basically 4 types of acne manifestations: whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and nodules.

3. Acne can appear pretty much anywhere on the skin, though it causes the most concern when it shows up on the face. The worst forms of acne break out, however, on the chest and back, and most commonly on males rather than females because of hormonal differences.

4. There are many common myths and untruths about acne, rosacea, and other skin care problems.

Some acne myths include “you’ll outgrow it, so leave it alone”, “being out in the sun helps acne”, “acne problems are directly or indirectly proportionate to sexual activity”, “acne visits dirty people”, “acne is contagious”, and too many more to list in this short article.

The sad thing is that belief in the myths can be devasting, in that proper treatment is avoided, and lifestyle changes that don’t need to be made can take away pleasure unnecessarily.

For example, at one point in my life, I truly believed that I was allergic to chocolate and that it caused my breakouts. Whenever I would succumb to the temptation and have “just a little” I would stress out waiting for the red spots, and sure enough they would appear.

After several years and much experimentation, I learned I had no allergy, the stress was a trigger for me, and a new over the counter face scrub has kept me in the clear ever since.

Knowing what triggers your breakouts can be the difference between constant battles and healthy skin. The Internet is a wonderful place to get the information you need, so stop stressing out and learn what it takes to put your best face forward.

The Path To Hair Restoration

Normal hair loss is a common occurrence. At any given time, approximately 10% of your hair is dormant and susceptible to normal shedding. The problem is when the shedding is excessive. It is when thinning hair becomes obvious that most people become concerned with hair restoration options.

Some of the reasons of abnormal hair loss may include:

+ Health concerns such as major illness, fungal infections, hypo or hyper thyroidism, and hormone imbalances;

+ Reaction to medications used to treat cancer, diabetes, lupus, gout, birth control, and anti-depressants;

+ Improper hair care, including excessive use of chemicals and blow-drying;

+ Genetics;

+ Poor diet, including too much fried and fatty foods, a lack of fruits or green vegetables, and dehydration.

What are the options?

While an estimated 95% of all excessive hair loss is generic, there is a chance a family doctor or a professional hairstylist can provide the quickest and least expense answer to hair restoration. A medical doctor can do a full physical, do the appropriate blood work, and review medications and diet. He can recommend changes that may help with hair regrowth. The hairstylist can look at the condition of the hair and work up a hair care routine that may correct the damage. This routine may include hot oil treatments, scalp massage, and a change of conditioner and shampoo. The stylist may also recommend a haircut to reduce the appearance of thinning hair.

In the event the doctor or hairstylist is unable to assist in reducing the hair loss back to normal levels, topical minoxidil, marketed as Rogaine, was the first FDA approved method of regrowing hair. To be effective, minoxidil is applied to the scalp twice a day. It works best for those who are young and have only recently begun to experience abnormal hair loss, according to Pharmacia & Upjohn. Skeptics question whether the product actually promotes as much new growth as it does reduce the amount of loss.

Also available to sufferers of hair loss is the FDA-approved finasteride, which is marketed as Propecia. Propecia works best on male pattern baldness. Not only has it been proven to restore hair growth, it also improves the thickness and strength of each hair strand.

Often, Propecia, Rogaine, or a combination of both is used in conjunction with hair transplants to optimize the hair restoration process. The process of hair transplants involves removing hair from the densely covered areas of the head and, using a needle, implant those hairs to the thinning section of the head.

Those suffering from male-pattern baldness may also choose a scalp reduction. A scalp reduction is the surgical process of removing large sections of the bald scalp, then the skin from the densely haired sections of the head are stretched to replace the area of scalp that is removed.

If medications and surgery seem too extreme, those suffering from abnormal hair loss still have the option of wearing a hairpiece. While no two toupees, or hairpieces, are created equally, a toupee can look natural. Many who opt for the hairpiece option join a “hair club,” which offer members service that will keep their hairpieces cleaned, colored, and offering the optimal fit.

Remember, all medications and surgical procedures involve a certain amount of risk, and no hair restoration solution is guaranteed to work. Before agreeing to a hair restoration regime, consult with a doctor and know your risks.

Making the right hair restoration decision

Deciding whether hair restoration is right for you is a personal decision. Some people are more concerned than others with hair loss. Deciding which hair restoration method will work best for you is something to discuss with a doctor who specializes in treating hair loss. Many issues such as health, habits, budget, and tolerance to pain will need to be considered before creating a plan of action.
